Sorry about the back. They can be maddening at times. Mine is a wreck, a fractured vertebrae, a couple herniated discs, sever stenosis in two different places, one replaced hip and another on the way. Life is fun!!Mongrel505558 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 11:10 pm Working from home and trying to rewire my panhead while my back is spazming. Good times.

Re: what are you doing today?
Man, that sucks. Mine's not that bad. One disk is wider on one side than the other, so I'm out of alignment. Every now and then it tweaks out on me and I'm pretty much useless for a few days.RUBONE wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 11:21 pmSorry about the back. They can be maddening at times. Re: what are you doing today?
The race of the mainshaft on the primary side is out of round by some .0012
I was able to get a recentably priced laphead for this Eastern-set I have.
Need a pilot to fit the roller bearing on the kicker side.
The outer diameter of the pilot is a light press-on fit inside the roller bearing.
To bore the inner diameter the boringbar I used was a bit small and extended too much and it started to chatter.
That`s why I need to hone the inner diameter with my P-190 .
Just checked on the pricing of this hone head ... geez I got it for less than 200 bucks not too many years ago

Re: what are you doing today?
Lapped the race.
The race is now within .0002 when miked at various spots
I find it much easier to lap in this fashion with such a tool cause I tend to create a meassureable top and bottom dead center when line lapping horizontally.
So for me its up side down.
Currently update of the forum software going on ?
One pic doesn`t show and the other is up side down.
Trying it later again
Other pics in previous posts are mocking up as well hahaha

Aaah yes, Thanks for your effort
Here`s the pic with lap-pilot I showed above when fabbing. Maybe easier to understand its purpose.

At work, I have had sciatica for a month which makes me limp, a little better.RUBONE wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 11:21 pmSorry about the back. They can be maddening at times. Re: what are you doing today?
Yeah, I've dealt with sciatica often. That really sucks. Can't get comfortable no matter what I try (short of pain killers, which I won't do because with a chronic condition like that it would be easy to become addicted). Back is loosened up a bit over the past few days. Had to drive from Providence to Boston and back a couple days ago, and that set me back a bit. If I sit too long the back stiffens up. Have to walk around a lot. Plan to ride today.panhead51 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 6:31 pmAt work, I have had sciatica for a month which makes me limp, a little better.RUBONE wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 11:21 pmSorry about the back. Re: what are you doing today?
Converted the 3+R to a straight 4-speed with 2nd hand Shovel parts
Still searching for a hand shifter drum though ...
After taking the shots I dressed the rivets with a smaller hammer so they`re looking better now

Re: what are you doing today?
Similar parts in my shop. Pulled the trans on a 44U because its stuck in neutral. Shifter drum and gears are rusty. And a syrup like substance makes the gears rotate with resistance. Fork slides wont slide on the shaft. I need a big bucket of diesel to soak it in. Then remove a broken 5th mount bolt from the bottom. Question, did all four speeds have a vent? No hole for one in the case, and only screws holding the lid on.

Re: what are you doing today?
I have a hand shifter drum. Not sure of the year, but the casting number inside appears to be 33-35. It's a little dirty, but appears to be in good mechanical condition. Send me a PM with your email and I'll take some pictures and email them to you. If you're interested make me a fair offer. It's funny, but I read through the KB all the time and have been reading up on transmissions since I will be rebuilding one of mine soon. Lots of threads about ratchet tops, jockey shifts, hand shift tops, etc., so I just dug this thing out yesterday to look at it. I don't have any plans to use it myself.

Re: what are you doing today?
I love the pictures and detail Raytag, but it really does belong in a different thread, not this one.

Re: what are you doing today?
Us continentals make it always more complicated than it is!
I was writing up a whole sermon why I posted here (What are you doing today?") but right now I`m realizing that I should post in the Panhead section.
One single build-up thread ? Or many different threads?
Like: One thread for the trans. One for the wheels? Frame, brakes etc etc ?
Just tell me.
Feeling a lil numb today. Don`t know whether it was the big fat one last night or one of the SoCo/Bourbon/GingerAle/lime glasses. LOL.
