I was setting the timing on my buds shovel one day. I used ciggie paper method. I had the rotation down to the point where the points were just about to open. I told my budd ,let's try something, I turned the ignition on and broke the points and the bike started. Freaked him right out, me, just another day in the office,

It will always start in the right direction because of the relationship between the two cylinders and crank rotation. H-D single 2-stroke lightweights were known to do that, start and run backwards.

It takes very little movement to start an engine if conditions are right. I knew an old timer that always retarded his spark at shutdown. Often he could just roll the advance and the points would break and the bike start, no kicking involved.
