oil pumps

does anybody know what the small roll pin in the pump body was for?

the one in the body, down in the regulating valve passage about a 1/16 round

I don't have an iron OP on hand at this time.
Perhaps you can provide a picture of the pin installed for all of us to contemplate....

I think it's the pin you can see at about 1:29 in this video, down behind the drill bit the guy is inserting:

I just we to the basement and looked at a spare pump housing.

Same pin installed as in the video.

Got to be there for a reason

Remnant of the manufacturing process? Can't see how or why, but can't see any other reasons, either. My first thought was to limit the travel of the valve plunger, but the seat taper does that.

I wondered about the machining process too. It's pretty well permanent, it would be hell to get out.I've got early and late Pan pumps and all have it.
