65 A Field coils resistence
Hallo, the resistence of the field coils on my 12 volts 65A generators measured between the two posts A and F is 5,3 ohm . Could somebody tell me if this is correct?
Thank you
Giovanni

Re: 65 A Field coils resistence
Dear Fellas,
The service manual says to read amperage, not resistance.
Hope this helps,

Dear electrical engineers,
Maybe the service manual doesnt want you to overlook a potential problem.
An ohm meter doesn't always show a shorted armature either,

Thank you Nightshift for your answer.
My 48 pan has a 12 v sistem now and the informations I have are only about 6 v sistems
Could you tell me how many Amperes should the field coils on a 65 A generators have and how can I connect battery and tester.
Bye
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,
Sorry this scan is hard to read, but it was fast. It is hard to find analog amp meters that are accurate that low.
Hope this helps,

Re: 65 A Field coils resistence
I measured the amps as described using a batteries and an amp-meter in series i read 2,2 Amp, ohms are 5,3 so i think the fields are ok. I mounted the generator and I let it turn as an electric engine, F post and body to neg on battery, A post to pos on battery( battery 12 Volts , 45 A/h). It turn by itself an it use 4,2 amperes, when I try to stop the motor with my hand it use max 5.5 Amperes before nearly stopping. As this unit should develop 11 Amperes and the fields are ok I think the problem is on the Armature. I saw on the copper collector a damaged area , I ll buy a new Armature.

Re: 65 A Field coils resistence
I just had a 65a drive me nuts. Field coils passed all the tests. Generator motored fine. But would not put out more than 3 volts. Since everything was new in the gen except the field coils I put a new set of accel coils I had on the shelf and that did it. When motoring it sound exactly the same with old or new coils. Beats me, but that wasn't the first gen I've seen that motored but didn't charge.
