Putting on the heads on a '52 pan, got internal oiling (in the cylinders) for this year. There is some porosity in the heads (pits) and don't want to machine them.
Does anyone have an opinion whether I should put some Permatex on them or should I assemble with just the gaskets? I'm a little concerned about plugging the oil passages with Permatex. Any opinions here?
Thanks,
Oldman

Re: Panhead head gaskets
Me again.
Permatex wasn't made for that application.
If you cannot dress your headgasket surfaces flat some how, like on a glass plate with emery paper, or a huge ol' grindstone like I am so proud to have, then you should at least drawfile the headbolt inserts and then paint the composite gaskets with a hightemp heatpaint.
But do NOT do this with a coated James Gasket (the BEST brand I can suggest!). They will seal porosities very well.
Copper gaskets often suck. air. literally.
