One of my 48 Pan rockers has broken the hardened cup that the pushrod locates in. These cups seem to be riveted in place & the top , riveted piece is still in place but the cup is broken off. The broken piece is in the box with the old valves. The motor was stripped when I bought the bike.
Part # 17426-48 is shown in the exploded diagram but is not listed on the list of parts.
Is this part available seperately ??
If not , would it be safe to have the cup silver soldered back in place ??

Re: 48 Pan Rocker question.
I would not trust a repaired rocker. Used originals and new replacements are easily available. And they should all be checked and clearances corrected before use anyway.

Re: 48 Pan Rocker question.
Flatboy1950!
If the pieces fit back together nicely, and all of the mating edges can be blasted with aluminum oxide, then it begs an attempt.
The problems with silver soldering that I am encountering boil down to identifying appropriate alloys, and obtaining them.
An immediate concern that I can conjure (from web info, so it must be true) is that a low-or-no phosphorus silver solder is used for steel, however the residual copper coating, from the heat-treating dip, requires 5% or more of phosphorus. The copper may have to be blasted or ground away quite clean.
Good luck!

Re: 48 Pan Rocker question.
Cotton theory sounds good! Also correct if you are into metalurgy as I am!--But with a 1.5 rocker ratio & the constant beating it takes!---(heating-cooling -rpm-etc.) I personaly would get a new set & mate em-up!-You will have piece of mind & you dont want to crack-it while your 500miles from your shop! Just my 2 cents worth!(But if the bike is never rode & an original period bike It would be something to consider-since it just has to fire for the Judges!).--58flh
