Modifying rocker block caps
In Clymer's panhead manual, there is a section which addresses updating the old rocker block caps by cutting oil channels on each side and drilling an angled, oil exit hole . It makes sense that this would make for better oil flow through the blocks, but are there any potential downsides to this modification? Fo example, would this cause any backup of oil at the tappet blocks due to increased oil flow? I'm still wrestling with oil leaks at the bases of my pushrod covers and I did these mods to my rocker caps. I'm now wondering if this has anything to do with the leaks.

Re: Modifying rocker block caps
Shouldnt have any effect.I have used both early and late styles depending on what I had and it doesnt seem to matter.IME the majority of pushrod tube leaks(assuming good corks) are either the bottom of the tube isnt flat or you dont have enough spring pressure.Sometimes an extra washer under the spring helps.

Re: Modifying rocker block caps
My tubes are easy to remove/replace since there isn't a lot of tension on the springs. I still have no problem with leaking untill the corks get old...Mike
