Missing valve springs?
I bought a pair of rebuilt heads and I noticed that there are single springs at each valve, instead of the usual double spring set-up. The guy said that these were "reverse -wound coil springs and are adequate for an old panhead engine ( a stock '48 fl panhead). I spoke to 2 mechanics who never heard of such a deal. Is this guy pulling my leg? Opinions, please.

I dont know what he is pulling but it sounds like your wallet chain to me.I have been to two goat ropings and a county fair and I aint NEVER seen nothin like that! Seriously buy the correct springs and take the heads apart and see what else is wrong. There are undoudtedly a bunch of valve springs out there that will fit between the retainers but that doesnt mean they will work right.

CC55197 Kibblewhite Valve Springs, Set of four for Panheads and Shovelheads $34.95 $30.95
this one sells a set, only the outer spring.
Donnow if the inner set isn't required, but it seems that way !!

Re: Missing valve springs?
on straight wound springs you need a inner to stop harmonics....IE valve float and such....
beehive can be one, this has to do with the coils being wound a different dia over the spring length....no harmonics build up
