The valve guides fitted to my heads have been machined down to accept the Crane type seals. I need to check valve stem height from the top of the guide but can't follow the spec's in the manual because my guides are no longer the original length. Can anyone tell me what height the guide would have been from the head to its end prior to being machined?
Thanks.
Stuey.

Re: Valve guides
Dear Stuey,
The "valve stem protrusion" is measured from the flat shoulder of the guide to the top of the valve stem. That part doesn't usually get cut. You measure "free travel" from the top of the seal to the bottom of the top spring collar with the keys in.
A brake wheel cylinder spring makes that easy.
'Spectful,

Re: Valve guides
Stem protrusion is 1.500" min. 1.545 wear limit" Take this with a grain of salt-aftermarket guide shoulders are all over the place for dimension. I have seen them vary by as much as .030"!!
