What are STD heads? I don't know if they are aftermarket or what.

I've read this string and referenced info about the manifold for the STD heads with great interest. Not being intimately familiar with this Shovel type manifold can you tell me if this is true? If using "O" ring type manifold sealing the clamp actually clamps against the nipple and manifold thereby creating a rigid metal to metal mounting across the two, versus the clamp squeezing the rubber band type and allowing continual movement and flexing of the manifold. Seems like rigid is a better situation. Drawback is that there's a lot less sealing surface with the "O" ring versus the band and the band seems more forgiving of poor allignment at lease for the short term.
