Gasket between pan and head
I bought gaskets for the pans. Put new pads in the pans and bought some new screws as well. The gaskets I bought I was told I don't have to use any sealer on them. Does that make sense?
Re: Gasket between pan and head
Not sure what gaskets you mean, but I am assuming the upper D shaped pan gaskets. Or maybe the circular head gaskets.?
Either way, do not use sealant.
The key with the upper "D" ring gaskets is multiple:
1.Do not over tighten.
2. Use the cork, not the cardboard type gaskets
3. Tighten in a "star" pattern so that the d rings has a chance to settle evenly over the gaskets. Snug them down, then snug slightly again once you ride it a few times
4. Try to keep the d rings with the cylinder they came off of.
No, you wont see the above in any factory manual, but it works

Accurate Engineering- silicone pan gaskets use no sealant as well. Mine haven't leaked in two years. Careful not to overtighten these either.

i use unsealed cork. Lots of leaks from other places, but never from the Pans.

I had a set of the Accurate Engineering gaskets on my 51, they sealed very well. Of course they don't look stock...Mike
