headbolt re - torque

#1

Post by tschukojr »

so I had a leaky head bolt front cyl. left side over gen.-----( just a little dripping or leaking on the bolt head only didn't seem to be a blown head gasket, but I guess any leak is a blown hd. gask.)--question is after its started initially, and I re- torque the head---that's best done after it cools down ? -------thanks in advance-------------tony schuko

I always torque my headbolts cold.

That said, your drip is not likely to be coming from oil seeping past the head gasket. The return oil return galley on the front head runs very close to the head bolt. I've seen heads with small cracks in the return galley that allow oil to pass into the head bolt area. It can work it's way down and drip off the end of the head bolt from there.
