Re: 55 speedometer
Why not send it in for an estimate? I doubt if you can get a price without him examining it. My 57 was seized, magnet shaft stripped, the bezel and the glass was replaced, it was repaired and calibrated. I thought the price was very fair considering it was broken and came back like new and it was done promptly.Hog54 wrote:How much does he charge to renew them? And that 55 is the same as my 54 isnt it?

Re: 55 speedometer
Well, nobody is throwing 'the number' out there, what he charges, so I'll go ahead with what I know....
I had two 1948-52 speedometers that needed restored, so I sent them both to John for total restoration, to "as new" condition.
I also bought 2 speedometer cables from him, they weren't that expensive, around $100 (each) as I recall.
I think he has a flat rate of ... $285...? (each)
Here's what I got back. Yep, they are "as new".....!
Oh... why two speedometers?
Well, why not...! Just thinking what they might be worth in 20 years.... it's better than an IRA.

Re: 55 speedometer
Holy crap! Those are beautiful. I knew he did great work, and everyone sang his praises, but WOW!! Even the factory number stamps. Classy!
Re: 55 speedometer
John has done several speedometers for me, and I'm very pleased. His prices are fair, the work is very nice, and he's a good guy, too. I'm lucky to be able to drive over to his house for any work needed.

Re: 55 speedometer
He doesn't give a price until he knows the extent of work you want. In my case, I needed guts rebuilt and a new needle... came to like $165, $10 LESS than he estimated. This was for a '63 tombstone speedo. All I can say is that he is very honest, friendly, and priced well for all that you get in the transaction. Highly recommended. - azpaul
