48-52 Speedo Feedback

#1

Post by Mr Mach1 »

I've been watchubg this speedo on ebay. It's posted by speedo_rat out of Canadia.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/370737420004?ss ... 1423.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anyone every heard of him ? Price is $700 which is pricey but I've seen similar speedo's sell for $800-$900. I've put a bid in on this one thinking I can get it restored for a few hundred or so if the guts are good. Any reccomemdations on who to send it to ?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261156685285?ss ... 1423.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've got some serious money tied up in my 49 Pan and have dome a frame up resto to the best of my ability. This is my first bike and I'm much more of a car guy but it pains me to look at the incorrect cheapo speedo I have on it now. Thinking a few hundred more on a proper speedo is money well spent. I'm into it so deep it's hard to stop.

Thanks
Leon

I sent mine to John Bordas, 11800 W 38th ave. Wheat Ridge, Co. 80033. He did my 58 which is the same as yours only different colors for $250.00.

plus one on john bordas!

he did both of mine, built up from scratch to meet my specs. both have been on the road for 2-3 years and work perfectly!

his prices for either work on an existing unit or sale of complete units are very reasonable. john also makes speedo cables from stuart warner stock.

Speedo rat is Janus Napeirala. I believe he IS one of the best speedo doctors in the world. Have him fix it before he sends it.

I too bought a 48 - 52 rebuilt speedo from Janus "speed Rat"
A beautiful piece of work and functions perfect. Was $700 also.
I got lucky, at the time no one else was bidding on it.

I've been watching Janus actions for about a year now. Every once in a while, he will lower his prices. They are usually listed for $899.

Around Christmas he listed all his speedo's for $600. I needed a 47 only speedo. Nobody else bid and I got it for $600. I'm very pleased to get it for that price. If you think $700. is pricey, I seriously suggest you sell your 49 now and get out of this hobby. It's not going to get any better. :D Just my .02 cents.

There is nothing better then a nice OE speedo sitting in that dash plate!! , it"s the CHERRY ON TOP!, go for it, or find a decent rat and rebuild it yourself.

I agree with all of you. I've been looking for a speedo since I got the bike. $700 is good money but I don't think it's out of line for the work of art these pieces are. Even though his feedback is good I just wanted a referral. I buy a lot of parts off ebay and have been burned by guys with great feedback. If you guys say he's good then he's gold to me :)

I was always told by those who had Harleys that two wheels cost just as much as four. I didn't believe it then but do now. I thought of unloading the bike when I got it as it was payment on a long over due loan but after looking at it for a while ( even though it looked more like a chopper) I grew to love the lines of the rigid frame. Simple yet elegant while still being manly. If only I was a few inches shorter and a hundred pounds lighter.

Consider Perry Ruiter., contributor to this site. He has done 2 speedometers for myself and my brother and I am very pleased. A very good guy, was one of the cannonball support crew this year.

My experience was one of the listed negatives from an E Bay purchase.

Perry is a nice guy, he's done two dash bases for me, no problems.
John Bordas is a nice guy, too. He has done 4 or 5 speedos for our group of Pan Fans. My younger brother's 49 speedo had a problem with the needle waving all over the place, John made it right within a week.

MR MACH 1,

I POSTED A "POLICE SPECIAL" SPEEDOMETER PHOTO IN "MISC". WHEN PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE, YOU SIMPLY POINT TO THE CORRECT SPEED AT WHICE YOU WERE DRINKING? THE SPEEDO NEVER LIES. BOUGHT FOR $20 AT THE VINTAGE MOTORCYCLE DAYS AT MID-OHIO ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO. ONE A KIND!
