Speedo cable and clip

#1

Post by Northman »

This may be a stupid question but cant find a picture and don't recall where this speedo cable clip mounts... :? I think what I have is the early 50's caseing since its the large dia. and resources that I do have are showing the smaller dia. and it mounts to the center case stud. Where does the clip fasten that I have?

36 to 61 (perhaps later) use the large speedo cable (like your photo).
The clip holds the cable to the center engine stud on the left side.

Jerry, did any of these clips mount to any other studs besides the center case?

67075-36 is listed for 36 to 54 (in 54 parts book).
Palmer page 449 shows clips, Palmer says 52-56 is mount on front cylinder base stud.
The clip hole is to small, conflict between parts book and Palmer, Robbie may know.

Not true, the speedo cable size changed for '57 and up to the small 5/16 cable size with a corresponding small clip that is totally different than either early one.
There were a variety of top center bolts over the years. The '48 part number is the longest and was shortened on about '51. The parts book gives the actual lengths. The clip that goes on the base stud is totally different than the -36 one. Still for the large cable, but looks somewhat like an electrical conduit clamp!
There is a picture of it in Palmer's on page 449.

This sheds some light on it for sure... I figured it bolted on the center stud but was trying to figure out how in the world with that short stud! Then I thought....hmmm, I might have a missing part for fastening and so on. I guess I have a couple options to make it work...or not. chances are its pretty slim to find a oem 57 and up but you never know. When I get to these types of cross roads I hate to not use something oem even if it is the wrong year.... but close (58) and have to use aftermarket. Maybe I'll spot weld it on........

I bought the colony case stud set and the clip went on fine.Thier studs are long enough for both the clip and the carb bracket.

I do have an extra set of case bolts and thought of checking the length of that bolt, seems when I assembled the motor and did go through them matching, that one set had a longer center bolt....but opted for the short keeping all in the same family. I need to get back in the garage and check, maybe tonight....I hope.

Thanks for the photo and the info.
