anyone have one of these on their handlebars?

just got one, anyone ever see one of these clamps on a pan?

i know they are common on wl models, any one else ever see one on a panhead? after reviewing photos in palmer's book i do not see any mounted on mid fifties models.

i was wondering since most of the photos in palmers book are of prototypes, if the clamp was a production afterthought or was it a police only application?

what do you guys think?

I've got one of those on the front brake cable of ALL the flatheads but not on the '49 pan with hydraulic forks. As Steve mentioned they were used on the '48 FL which has a springer. I think they were limited to the springer fork models. Your parts diagram with all the -36 part numbers is all pretty much springer stuff.

that is correct mike, but that one in my first photo exists! that is why i wonder if it was a police model addition.

i thought it might be a nice dohickey to keep my front brake cable from hitting my glove box on the windshield.

They are clean and simple and work great. They may have started using them on the panheads after 1952 when the front brake lever was moved over to the right side of the handlebars. My '49 still has a left side mounted brake lever, the cable makes a smooth swooping arc from the lever to the tube so it really doesn't need to be tied to the bar.

Its been my experience that with any model mechanical front brake that the better the cable is secured, the better the front brake will work. So not only will it be a great doohickey it also will serve a good purpose.
