Throttle And Spark Spirals Identified

#1

Post by VintageTwin »

In case anyone is wondering, there was only one throttle spiral used on Panheads.
The (56220-53) spirals for throttle and spark retard are the same. Only one part number, they are both the "push" type. The roller channel runs C.W. The spirals push the timer to retard and push the butterfly of the Linkert open.
The (56220-58) spiral used on 1958-up Servi-Cars for right-hand shift models are the "pull" type and can be used for Bendix carburetor applications (if the cable is anchored above the carb. You could use a "push" spiral if the cable entered the Bendix below the carb.
These are both (56220-53) "push" spirals. One is labeled "S" for spark and the other "T" for throttle.
