60 pan manual advance cable routing

#1

Post by Wrong Road »

Does anyone have a link to correct routing of '60 advance cable routing between frame and timer? Can't get it away from front exhaust pipe. Thanks. Finally running! Just chasing a few leaks and smoke!

found this in the forum. Looks like I'm missing a couple of brackets. The top bracket I can get from J&P. Anyone know where I can get the bottom bracket that bolts to the case?

I went through the same thing recently as all my timing control mechanism was missing. I'd found the same thread you linked to.
The upper clamp I found in amongst loose spares. The clamp by the timer I made from light gauge panel steel.
I used nylon lined cable from a mower shop. The action was greatly improved once I'd washed and greased the timer base plate.

Wrong Road, I'm posting these in the hope it's helpful. I think this is what you need. :?:
Pic taken from LH side of bike. Clamp visible between cylinder and exhaust.

Clamp on the downtube. It's an 'open' clamp which clamps the cable against the frame.

This clamp is a full, wrap-around type. I made it from a piece of color-steel roofing iron. Funnily it's the same color as my shed wall cladding.
Making it was easy..

Thanks Excalibur! Very helpful. I'm guessing the bracket I have is a home made one so I'll take your advice and fabricate the other bracket. I may be able to just turn the cable clamp to get the job done. It was fine before I disassembled it so there must be a way! Your '61 looks great and your blog is awesome.
