solo seat

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 58. Looking for solo seat to fit drop frame. I'd like something comfortable but not too comfy (if you know what I mean). Not going to use pogo. Any ideas?

Thanks I'll check it out. Just one question, I'm putting new tins on her. Does this seat have a tab on back that bolts thru the fender?

I used a seat from Mustang for two up riding, since we both could not fit on the Buddy seat.
This is the one that I had.

Thanks, just started looking . Most say fits 65 and later post drop cradle. I'll check them out.

This is a take-off seat from a Crossbones, bought from a Harley dealer on Ebay. It was just over a hundred bucks, and included brackets and springs. Front uses a Fab Kevin hinge bracket. Very comfy, looks better on an old bike than on a new Crossbones!

Russ, keep looking at your ride. Really like looks . Just checked ebay found nothing as to seat and mounting . Any more info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Frame supposedly goes to powder coat next week. Are these brackets bolt on,welded or am I going to have to drill holes for seat mount. Thanks for anything you can add.

The LePera seat is designed to bolt to the bottom of the seat with a hole in the fender. I didn't want a hole in the fender so I made a u shaped bracket out of 1 x 1/8 stainless strap and pop riveted it to the bottom of the seat. It bolts into Wellnuts in each side of the frame cross tube under the seat.....Rod

Thanks Rod, Thought about making my own brackets. Only problem I have, to check oil have to lift seat. Not sure I want to go to a angle fill tank or not. May end up doing that. Thanks for advice.

If you search Ebay for "Crossbones seat" you will find about half a dozen on there now, ranging from start auction at $.01 to almost $400 (!). Keep your eye for a descent price. It would help to get some of the brackets (but you don't need the cover piece), there is one which bolts to the seat bottom, then the springs bolt to it. This allows easy removal of the seat, as the springs/bracket stay attached to frame when seat is unbolted. I used the readily-available rear brackets which bolt to the stock shock studs, then re-drilled the stock bracket to accept the spring spacing dictated by these mounts. A set of 2" springs are the perfect height. Front is an adapted "hidden" hinge bracket like you saw from Kevin.

Just one more question. A couple of guys have told me that sprung seats like yours bottom out pretty easily. I'm about 220#. You're probably not a lard ass like me, but have you had any trouble with bottoming out springs.

I don't have much problem with that with the 2" springs, had a different seat with 3" before and it didn't bottom, but I weigh in at about 160 lbs. Since we both run rear shocks, I think they absorb their share of road shock as well, so seat springs would be less apt to bottom as they would on a rigid frame. Also, if you look around, you will find springs made of different diameter stock which will affect compression rate.

Thinking maybe 3" will do the trick. Just don't like the look when seat gets too high off the fender. That's why I'm getting rid of pogo.
