Solo Seat Adjustment 1965 FLH
I'm trying to adjust the seat height on my 1965 FLH for people who are vertically challenge. I have the H-D service manual and went by their instructions but the seat is still too high. I tried taking out one of the springs which helped but the seat would bottom out on big bumps. Any suggestions on adjustments I can make for a 5'7", 165lbs rider?

The only way you can change it is be re-arranging the springs in the upper tube with a longer one below the rod flange and shorter above. This will reduce the overall height. Then the issue to consider is contacting the frame .

There isn't much you can do about the stock seat height with a seat post.

Thanks Rubone. I will give that a try. The previous owner also had helper springs under the seat. They looked cool but made it impossible for me to reach the ground. He weighed at least twice of me.

That's what I figured after reading the service manual. The buddy seat even sat up higher. I guess there were no vertically challenged riders back in the 60's???

Re: Solo Seat Adjustment 1965 FLH
I recently learned that a big block chevy valve spring fits perfectly over the seat post and softens the bottoming, If that's not the same type of "helper springs" you already have, maybe you can try it. I'm going to try it on my VL. The 56 Pan I just bought has one already on it.

I found an old post with the name and number of a fella that sells spring kits and is supposed to know a lot about the pogo set ups. I have no personal experience with him.

for those not into chevy, a shovel valve spring works just as good

Dave did retire and sold to Colony. I ordered a set of springs from them earlier last year. Same quality which is why he sold to Colony.
