After market solo seat... HELP!

#1

Post by Ken J »

Hey everyone...

I'm currently doing a re-build/re-style on my Panhead.

I'm wracking my brain and time trying to find an aftermarket solo seat, preferably with springs, that will bolt on to a 49-51 frame. I just picked up a V-Twin seat that was sold as a bolt on to early Harley big twin frames... yeah, not so much at all.

Does anyone have a line on one that will work without frame modification?

Thanks,
Ken

Do you mean you want to do away with the seat post (pogo)?

If you're not using the seat plunger or seat-T, you have to have extra brackets, springs, and such.
Look in the V-Twin catalog, they have all that stuff.

This seat is a take -off seat from a new Crossbones . They are available reasonable on Ebay, as many dealers remove them at time of sale for customers who want to replace them with a "custom' seat. Mine was purchased with all brackets and hardware for under $150 a few years ago. All the brackets and mounts you will need (and absolutely the best quality you will find) to adapt this seat for your use are available from Fab Kevin. You will, however, have to drill some holes in your frame to use his products.

I saw a set up that's being made by some guys in Europe. The front mount drops into the seat post tube and the rear mounts make up to the upper bolts for the rear fender U-clips so you don't need to do any welding or drilling on your frame. I'm pretty sure that WW Cycle (sp.?) sells them. I don't have any experience with their product, but I fabbed up something very similar once upon a time.

Regards,
Geo.

Here's a bad pic of my old 49, the seat was mounted in front to the seat post, at the rear a bracket fastened to the fender, which held the springs.

Don't mean to mess with this thread, but how many degrees is that neck raked, appears to be a Paughco springer, 9" over? is the springer raked, 21" front wheel? How does it handle?
Thanks,
Sam

As I recall the rake was 45 degrees, early springer extended with radius rods, never knew the oversize. Late 21" wheel, I added a late springer front disk set-up with the floating fender. This was all long before I developed an appreciation for stock panheads
