Oil Tank Bracket - Connection to Primary Chain Case
Anybody have any tips on the best way to bolt the left hand oil tank bracket (see picture below) to the tab on the primary? I think i remember reading somewhere that this connection, if poorly done, transmits vibration to the oil tank bracket and causes it to crack or break.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
(My apologies to the owne of this tank, if you're out there. I'm at work and I just grabbed a photo from the inter-web. SKW)

The oem setup used a spring, Colony makes a kit with these.
Lot's of people bolt them solid as well.

I always thought the spring kit was a little overkill, I'm using a bolt with a washer on each side of the connection with a lock nut. Just leave it loose enough so the parts can slip a bit and not break anything...

If you bolted it up solid, you;d have to remember to loosen it whenever you tried to adjust the primary chain.

That is the goofiest thing ever! The covers don't move when you adjust the chains!!If you bolted it up solid, you;d have to remember to loosen it whenever you tried to adjust the primary chain.

I ran it solid for a while, ended up breaking off the tab on the inner primary so I went to the stock spring, no more problems. I wouldn't suggest running it solid.

I will add something, hopefully of value, though.. The bracket is not designed to support the oil tank. It is there to support the inner primary chain cover.

Re: Oil Tank Bracket - Connection to Primary Chain Case
Just had the same problem. The upper tab on the primary clashed with the oil tank tab, this didnt allow the inner to to pull in far enough so the belt drive gear ground on the inner. so i cut off both tabs, made up new (larger) ones and welded them on giving me a small gap. Then used the standard spring/bolt thing but with a firm rubber gasket in between, mounts up quite solid but cuts the vibes.
