Gas tank leaking, how to repair

I'VE GOT MY ORIGINAL 3.5 GAL. TANKS WITH FLAMES.
RIGHT SIDE TANK WORKS FINE, LEFT SIDE LEAKS DOWN AT THE
OUTER RIDGE ON BOTTOM SIDE OF TANK.

I'VE TAKEN THE TANK TO A BUNCH OF WELDERS, AND THEY ALL SAY
THEY CAN'T TRY WELDING THE SMALL CRACK WITHOUT DESTROYING THE PAINT JOB. THE CRACK IS ABOUT 1.5" FROM THE PAINT. i AIN'T GONNA SPEND A BUNCH OF $$$ TO REPAINT, BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE TWO WORKING TANKS

I'VE TRIED THE USUAL STUFF, J-B WELD, KREEM, ET., STILL LEAKS.

ANYBODY HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS?

THANKS

Just do it with a wire welder (mig) in short spots with a wet rag right at the crack.Should be easy if the welder knows what hes doing. Flush the tank with water then with air for a couple minuets

i had a set of 5 gallon tanks repaired that were still in primer.

my friend tig'ed them and burned only about a 1/2 inch of paint off.

i would keep looking until you find the right guy for the job.

tig weld it, do a small spot, cool area with a wet rag and continue till crack its fixed....
BUT cracks can be bigger than they seam, and as they get welded they grow longer than thought, kinda like chasing it

I had a seam welded many years ago just above the rear mount. I think the welder may have filled the tank with water first. very minor bubbles and could not see with a center strip on.
