Re: Tin primary
The front studs sometimes go thru into trans oil, replace with bolts or set screws.

Re: Tin primary
You could also just replace the outer cover with a aftermarket tin diamond style if that will work for you.

Re: Tin primary
my 65 is kick only with a tin primary and belt drive . you will need the aftermarket bearing retainer to replace the bearing on the cast inner primary ,as the 65 and up tranny has a longer shaft that need the support . you can holesaw the inner tin primary so the studs protrude thru it .they will not interfere with the belt . keep in mind that 65 and up trannies are not adjustable , so you have to cock the tranny to get the belt on, then square it up and align it with the inner primary in place . Big pain in the ass , but doable !

If its kick only. I don't think he needs to run the outer bearing support. I may be wrong... Cutting holes in the primary cover sounds a bit on the fugly side as well.

Re: Tin primary
Do you have a belt primary drive? Because if you plan on a chain drive, there's not much room for tranny adjustment before the ears on the trans hit the swing arm. Experience from a '66 I once had with open chain primary. Belt drives stretch very little, unlike chains.
My 2 cents

Re: Tin primary
The trans is a rev tech 65 and up four speed that i changed the main shaft to a early shaft 64 and earlier and i will be running a beltdrive so will try to just take out the primary studs and see if that works
