Oil tank decals.....water-slide

#1

Post by FLHbomber »

I searched but found little information on this. Water slide decals.
Can they be applied to black oil tank ('62 - H style), and left un-protected?
Secondly, where can I purchase them?
Or just use the sticky back type? :?
thx

Get some clear fingernail polish.

Once the decal drys, apply the polish along the edges. If you have a steady hand, apply the polish across the top of the decal to provide a nice, hard surface to protect the decal. It does not need to be a heavy layer of polish. Keep it thin and level as you apply it.

For the best results, only extend the polish about 1/8 inch beyond the edge.

I've done this on several black tanks, both painted and powdered coated, with excellent results.

I've used paste wax over the decals. So far, so good 4 years.

PS: Yes, the contents were still good, and probably identical to what is available at your local hardware store today.
PPS: P4gas will eat everything, but this wax at least gives you a window of opportunity to wipe it off!
PPPS: Sadly, however, "Lemon Pledge" ain't what it used to be.

Before you apply decal --you must strip any oil & wax off!--(Alcohol & clean cotton rag!.--I had my paintjob going on 3yrs. now & I had a few mishaps with a leaky cap & some spillage--I use straight-up carnuba wax & my paint has no issues!--However the P-4 will strip the wax IMMIADIATLY!--So a clean & redo is in order,& the sooner the better.---Respectfuly---RICHIE 8)
