1954 Front Fender "Medallion" ?

#1

Post by Michael_Germany_1956 »

Hello!

One of the most important parts is missing on my 1954FL, the front fender emblem,
the 1954 "Anniversary Medallion".
Harley-Davidson celebrates its 50th Anniversary in style. An attractive logo is created, depicting a "V" in honor of the engine which had brought the Company so far, with a bar overlaid reading "Harley-Davidson" and the words, above and below, "50 years--American made." A medallion version of this logo is placed on the front fenders of the 1954 models.

The original Medallions are very scarce and very expensive, is there a chance to find a good
reproduction, in polished brass, like the original Medallion?

Thanks for your help!

Greetings from Germany Michael

You're not the only one looking for one! Sometimes they are for sale on eBay for skyhigh prices.

during the last 2 years at the davenport swap meet i have seen a few people reproducing the 54 and 55 medallions.

i got a repro one for my 55 that is a quality piece for about 1/4 the price of an original.

as panhead stated the originals do show up on e bay now and then. be prepared to pay a healthy price.

if you could get someone to loan you one you could have a jewler make a casting of it. that is what the fellow i purchased mine had done, he made extras to cover his costs.

if i ever completly finish my restoration i will purchase an original, i just can't justify the cost at the moment (i could have my motor and trans rebuilt for the cost of an original) and i am happy with my repro medallion.

good luck on your search, they are out there!

oh yeah, i forgot to mention.

don't feel bad about the price of the medallion, try finding and paying for the one year only speedo for my bike! the one no one makes!

i bit the bullet and had one made last year!

i had to, it is the first thing people look at after the fender medallion!

Thanks, John!

A Reprocution would be fine for me, at this time, money is very short, and I am not able to buy an Original.

A Adress or a E-Mail Adress of a Manufacturer of the Reproductions would be nice, if someone can share one...?

Regards

Michael

P.S. "Davenport Swap Meet", is this in the USA, or GB ? :?:

Thanks to John & Panhead!

I am suffering from "Aviatophobia", in german Language "Flugangst", my last Flight was to and back from Canada, with the Germany Army in the late 1970s, we were in Shilo/Manitoba for Training with our LeopardII-Tanks.

So, no Davenport for me, sorry... :?

Regards

Michael

P.S. John, I have seen "Reproductions" of the 1955 Front Fender Medaillon, they were made in Poland, the Casting and the Finish was very poor, the Price was about 50,- Euro.

I was browsing and came across this. It says new reproduction. Still pretty high for a re-pop. I need one for my '54 also. Jim

seems reasonable to me, i paid a little more than that for mine.

if you consider the time it would take to find an original for a pattern, then have it made it seems to be a fair price.

i just saw an obviously repro '55 medallion on ebay being sold as original. oddly it was about 200 bucks too!
