Chrome removal on oem parts?

What do you guys recommend as a method of removing chrome in order to paint afterward. mureatic acid, blasting, sanding??? Or how much does a chrome shop usually charge for removal?

Its easier and cheaper just to bring it to the chrome shop.

Stripping the chrome is pretty cheap...it's stripping the nickel that's expensive. You can strip the chrome and then bead blast the nickel and prime with etching primer. I have done that with a lot of parts. And the bonus is the nickel gives rust protection.

Was quoted $65.00 to remove chrome from aluminum primary by chrome shop.
