footboard bolts

#1

Post by meadows »

does anybody know the correct direction of the footboard bolts on a stock 49 FL? i'm trying to restore mine as original as possible and i've heard amca judges deduct points for bolts inserted the wrong direction. it has the buddy seat with the buddy seat footrests also. any advice is greatly appreciated.

On page 77 of the 1949-57 Spare Parts Catalog, the schematic shows them with the nuts to the inside of the footboards--- in other words, the front and rear bolts 'point to each other', with the nuts inboard.

thats what would seem right to me. the bruce palmer book either doesnt mention it or i cant find it yet. it does tell that the 45's were installed with the bolt heads to the inside, but i don't know if that applies to big twins. i appreciate the response.
