Re: sidecar mounting
Doug,
I'm in the process of trying to put a 1945 LE sidecar on my '49 FL right now, all the chassis pieces are at the powder coater so I can't measure any of it right now. I bought the LE manual and its only a few pages long but has a lot of info in it. If I have time later I'll scan the whole thing and post it in the knowledge base.
The basis of the connection are 2 ball-studs with some very special big nuts on the lower sidecar chassis which provide a somewhat flexible connection to the frame, the loops on the front and the rear frame at the axle. A 3rd bar connects to a pin pivot at the top of the wishbone.
more info and pics later,
mike

Re: sidecar mounting
Your better off just buying the frame, then you can make any body you want on it.Im pretty sure you can get all the mounts for the bike frame from V-Twin too.

Re: sidecar mounting
Thanks hplhd, the Goulding site is very nice!
The "technical" tab on the site has a LOT of great stuff about the chassis and the components of the Litecar (Model Ls) which were made exclusively for the Harley WL.
I sure would like to find a similar site devoted to the LE model sidecars which were built for the big twins.

Re: sidecar mounting
First off, what bike are you talking about. Lots of stuff exists already for mounting various sidecars to different bikes. Some are easy, some not so.

Re: sidecar mounting
i've got a 52 FL. Its still has the sidecar loops on the front. in fact the frame is mostly unmolested.

Re: sidecar mounting
Your better off just getting an old harley frame than trying to make one.It probably would be cheaper too.

Re: sidecar mounting
I'm with Hog54, stock frames show up all the time. Then just build whatever body on it you like. My '44 UL has a stock SC on it but I am also building a flatbed type to haul a WR on built on a '40MW wide package truck chassis. Original mounts are around but so are repops.
