Hardtail-Swingarm
Great Site...finally signed up ..Wrenchin on my 65' Pan now for about 12 years and the info here has helped to keep me on the road.. Thanks

Question here ...just looking for humble opinions
Once rode a Hardtail Triumph before the Pan......Few years back, I bought a ( 70"s - ? not sure who made it ) Rigid aftermarket frame for a shovel-pan with the intent of building another scoot...unless I hit the lottery...it aint gonna happen
Been thinking about trading the frames with the 65...but...
Anyone looked back at swapping frames and not staying "ORIGINAL" ??

Dear KB65,
Motorcycles are like fried chickens because they are just pieces and parts.
But keep your good frame where you wont lose it,

Re: Hardtail-Swingarm
Maybe the starter went south, and a previous owner didn't want to spend the bucks for another, or maybe the inner primary was used, abused, misused or otherwise past the point of no return by a prevoius owner's assessment. There was a point in time when you couldn't find a decent inner primary for 65-69's. But the aftermarket took care of that didn't they? Ya gotta remember that a 65 electric start set-up was far from bullet proof. At best they were unreliable, and that's probably why the kicker was standard until 68. I was told by an old timer that 65 and early 66's were somewhat prone seting themselves aflame due to the lack of a starter relay....bosheff

The wires and switch WILL get hot!Bosheff wrote: I was told by an old timer that 65 and early 66's were somewhat prone seting themselves aflame due to the lack of a starter relay....bosheff
But that limited power to the starter.
Most red-label Delco starters fell prey to water, not heat.
There were several running production changes in the housing between the starter and primary.
I seems that the vacuum within the primary would draw moisture all the way through the starter in early production. Then they put a drain in the housing, invented seals on the starter shaft, etc.
It was a stupid year for H-D.
