Hello Dave. Looks like 5/16"x18tpi. Check this page out of the parts catalog. Sorry about it being sideways, had to do that to fit the upload parameters here. You can copy it and rotate it back. Hope this helps.

Re: tap size
Robbie is correct, the parts book is wrong (at least that version is). It shows that item #14, the nut that fits on the pivot bolt, is a 5/16 x 18 with a 15/16 hex. Whoa, that would have to be one tough 5/16 bolt to handle that!
I think I would go with the 5/8, it wouldn't be the first time they made a mistake in the parts book.

Re: tap size
V-Twin makes a special pivot bolt for stripped out frames. It's on page591 in the catalog...Mike

I agree, sure looks like a typo to me...!FlatHeadSix wrote:Robbie is correct, the parts book is wrong (at least that version is). It shows that item #14, the nut that fits on the pivot bolt, is a 5/16 x 18 with a 15/16 hex. Whoa, that would have to be one tough 5/16 bolt to handle that!

Re: tap size
All the Panheads I have known screwed into the frame, not a nut.
And a helicoil fixes a stripped frame quite well.
It appears to be a string of typos, as even my '65 book lists the phantom "5/16-18" nut.
That's a lot of years to leave a misprint!
Other places where the 7980 nut is used lists the correct 5/8-18.
Perhaps some of the confusion arose from the fact that the pivot bolt itself is fabricated with a nut welded upon it.

You still stand by that star hub diagram Cotten? <grin>It appears to be a string of typos, as even my '65 book lists the phantom "5/16-18" nut.

Sorry, I had to do it! I was trying to figure out what the nut was for myself.

At least the hub has alternative diagrams, such as the Armored School Handbook, to verify it.
Have we any alternative swingarm diagrams?
By the way, does anyone know off-hand the difference between '58-'62 47500-58 swingarms and '63-'72 47500-63 units?
