Extra swingarm hole

What is the extra swingarm hole for on the right side just behind the shock? It's a pretty big hole thru a pretty big boss.....If it's not for to mount a sidecar, my guess is that it's purpose was for a locating point in the original machining process. I've always wondered. If it's used to mount a sidecar, did they make use of the swingarm suspension? That wouldn't seem to make sense. I've never seen a sidecar up close and every pic I've ever seen, the mount is obsured. WTF is it?

Yes, the rear hack mount attaches there.
That's why many of them are bent.

Cotton, I'm quoting you when you compared Panheads to Knucks......
"Pans are solid workhorses that can pull a plow for hours without even touching the throttle......"
I was hoping that the extra hole wasn't to mount a plow.....

I won't be using that hole, and I'll be able to sleep better now that I know what its for.
Thanks.

I would have used the pan for pulling my plow, but I have the International Harvester for that.
