frame fork lock
My lock assembly in the neck appears to be intact, but I have no key. Has anyone had success going to an auto locksmith? Thanks, Gary

Re: frame fork lock
The locksmith down the street from our shop used a blank, a slow but interesting method of moving it back and forth while marked, and filing as needed. Took him about 30 minutes but he produced a very workable key and wrote down the code for reference so any locksmith down the road could duplicate it. Great to watch masters at their craft!

Re: frame fork lock
There was a guy (Zack) listed in the AMCA magazine who made keys from the number stamped on your lock.
He made a set for me that worked just fine. I did not see him in the last publication, July / August.
Check a previous publication, I just moved and can't find anything, otherwise I'd supply you with his number.

Jim, will the lock assembly have to be removed to see the numbers? I'm not sure how to remove the lock. thanks, Gary

Re: frame fork lock
On the earlier models the key code was stamped on the lock face. If you talking about a 1960 I beleive yours has a stainless cover so you will not be able to see the code. Your best bet is to take the frame to a locksmith and have them work with it.
