Frame

#1

Post by restless »

Hi When I got this 1960 pan the guy I got it from said it had a 1965 frame.
The letters D 4 are on the tab under the gas tank
and on the cross brace under the engine 47684-48-Y and then looks like 011
Does this make sense to any one
Thanks Bill

D4 makes it a frame "built" in April '64. If it was intended for a '65 it would have straight rails under the seat for the new electric start set-up used on all '65 models. If it has the drop tubes under the seat it is for a Duo-Glide. Which configuration is it as it could possibly be either?

Bill, can you please post photos showing both sides of the entire frame. And close-ups of both sides of the steering head and both the lower rear castings. Also what are the numbers on both those lower rear castings and on the upper rear casting?

You mentioned a cross brace under the engine so I assume you mean at the front? If so, then you may find the number doesn’t start with 47684, but instead it may begin with 47664.
