1955 four speed transmission sprocket torque specification
I have looked all over for the torque specification to tighten the sprocket nut and the only info I found was to tighten nut securely. Harley has a spec for all nuts and bolt does anyone know this specification.

FWIW It is inadvisable to use an impact wrench on your sprocket nut.A good American made 1\2" drive impact develops a max torque around 350-400 ft lb . This is pretty likely to damage the nut if you are lucky or the main drive gear if you are not.

I have been putting that nut on with an impact wrench on pans and shovels for 30 years and never have I damaged any threads.steinauge wrote:FWIW It is inadvisable to use an impact wrench on your sprocket nut.A good American made 1\2" drive impact develops a max torque around 350-400 ft lb . try to find somebody with a left hand torque wrench, most common are for right hand torque.I've done both ways of tighten the nut,but mostly i use the 3/4 ratchet, AND GET IT TIGHT AS I CAN.never strip a nut .line it up with the lock, you be OK.and i 'm sure that it will be looses the next time you inspect it.....johnson
