Clutch problem, whacked off thumb

#1

Post by irishpan »

Cut my left thumb off couple weeks ago. Now seem to be having problems using a clutch. I am looking for a solution. Problem is this is my first Pan therefore no experience. It is a 65 in a 53 frame. Would like to change to a jockey style shifter and sta away from the mousetrap.
Of course everyone around here has solutions of some scare the hell outta me.
Changed my 97 Glide to hydroulic and seems ok for now (only dumped it twice).

irishpan - I thought I lost my left ring finger tip last June under a manhole cover but it was still attached (just seriously flattened). It did impact my clutching the Heritage but I could've shifted the Pan (tank shift, foot clutch) the whole time. Take care and good luck to you.

I am looking for solutions to and knowledge to install a foot clutch and jockey shifter. I have found kits but the bike is mostly stock that is the frame is one year and the motor and trans is another. Electric start was removed so there is no clearance problems. I would like advice on what kind of system to have built. If anyone has knowledge of someone with Pan experience in western South Dakota....please hook me up.

P.S. Saftey devices on certain equipment do serve a purpose. Think twice about removing them!!

Can't you use an original hand shift - foot clutch setup like kevsett said?

None of the items I can locate are for sale. Add to the fact I have not a clue as to what to have, I have a problem. Saved money for 20 plus years to buy this damn thing and then dropped o few hundred into it to get it as close to original as possible and then only be able to ride for two months sucks. I also should add that my index and middle finger were afeacted from the torn nerves and tendons. Makes grabbing a shifter a whole new game.

irish, jp also has the police style shifter. bolts right to the down tube. works with a ratchet top and no gate. you can use your same tanks. you don't need to grab it. as long as you can bump it forward and back you'll be ok.

Hurts just thinking about it.
For South Dakota assistance, I suggest Carl's Cycle Supply http://www.carlscyclesupply.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Some dude up here near Leavenworth, KS did a foot clutch, hand shift modification on an Evo model (maybe a RK or a Heritage) and the shop owner reported he loved the change. It didn't have a gate on the tank but it still looked pretty sharp and like it belonged there too.
