When I disassemble, I take the adjuster screw nut off, put a large body washer on the spring pressure plate, and put the nut back on, retaining the springs and the pressure plate as a unit with the releasing disk. Sure makes things a lot easier...!

Jerry, the best method, like Tom describes, is in the panhead manual pg. 152 under disassembling clutch.figure 4B-4. Just remove the lock nut, put a big washer on the rod and replace the nut.Then remove the adjuster nuts. No trying to jamb a bunch of springs under the plate on install...
