I believe the first die cast kicker covers were on early '70s FLHs (the electric only version), later the FX ('77?) covers became die cast. All the covers with the set screw level plug are die cast. They also started die casting the primary covers around the same time primarily due to poor quality sandcastings that were porous. The first tranny top that was die cast was the cow-pie style.

The inner primary cover was die cast on the 79s. The early ones all cracked forward of the
mainshaft hole due to insufficient strength, causing many warranty claims.
