synthetic oil in tranny

I dont know if this was discuse before does anybody use synthetic gear oil in the four speed tranny I wasa thinking about trying it I been running 80-90 gear oil for yearThank You

You can use whatever you like but the recommended lube is the same oil you use in the engine.

I tried it, but it caused the leaks to really show. Seems that to run synthetic you have to really have a tight tranny.

I went back to regular oil and it does not leak nearly as much. (A few drops once in a while)

Gear lube ain't the way to go in yer mixer. Genuine H-D 60 weight is where it's at. It was good enough for the factory to use, so it should be good enough for you to use. If the tranny is otherwise o.k., it should do the job very well. Don't be afraid to change it often. It's cheap insurance....bosheff

I RUN 50 WT ENGINE OIL ALL YEAR,CAR OIL WORKS FINE, CHANGE IT EVERY 2ND OIL CHANGE. I'D PLAYED WITH THE 80-90 GEAR OIL AND IT ABOUT TOOK MY KNEE OUT DURING THE COOLER MONTHS, I'TS TO GOOIE WHEN ITS COLD,IT WILL KICK STRAIGHT THROUGH. THE KIKER GEAR IS SLOW ENGAGING. HELL I'RAN 10-40 IN THE TRANS WHEN I LIVED I NEBRASKA DURING THE WINTERS,NEVER HAD A TRANNEY PROBLEM. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, they DID'NT have sny oils then. thats my opinion with respects JR

I run 90 wt rear end oil. If I should find a oil slick under the bike a little on the finger and a sniff tell where it came from. Works for me

I ran synthetic and I ran 80/90 weight and never noticed a difference.I run 80/90 weight now because they gouge us with synthetic prices.

Don-p, ever since that squirt bottle of rear end lube leaked all over the floor in the back seat of my first car, I can't stand the smell of it...Mike
