shifter cam shaft removal

#1

Post by justdave »

Hello all, my ratchet top is cracked and have taken it apart to have it welded up and cant figure out how to get the shifter cam shaft out. I read the '59 to '69 service manual that says to use and old valve but I'm fresh out of old valves, any other tricks.
Also the part number stamped into the shifter cover is 34809-52 my parts book calls for 34805-52 will the 34809-52 fit a '58 FL. Thanks DaveZ

After you take out the setscrew holding the shaft in also take out the spring and plunger pushing on the cam. Push towards the ratchet side. There may be a o ring on one side of the shaft holding it, but they should go after they move a little bit. If the case is broken, there is a chance your shaft is bent.

I just had the same problem with my tranny, cracked case.
To remove the shaft I just used some soft jaw pliers and grapped a wholed of the shaft and tapped the pliers sideways towards the exit hole.
