Need generator strap

#1

Post by 1955fle »

My '55 FL is missing the strap the holds the generator and I am looking for one. I have called everyone I know and no one has a Parkerized one. If you have one you would be willing to part with I would be interested. I need the strap and mounting kit. Let me know.

Is it a big problem to run without the strap?

My '52 is missing this strap, also.

I was told if you have 5/16 mounting bolts, you don't need the strap (12 volt)...Mike

If you are running the stock 1/4" bolts to secure the generator, I would suggest carefull shimming, and obtaining a strap.

The easiest way to make a shim is to spread out some kneadable two-part epoxy putty in a zip-lock poly bag just smaller than the original shims, and allow the installation compress it to perfection. Position it so the drain hole is not blocked.

A good rattlecan paint for faking parkerizing is Bruning Silathane "bronze".

Be careful when choosing a strap out of a bin, as I believe there were three lengths, at least.

Hmm-3 different length straps? Do you know how to distiquish which strap for which year, besides trying it? Interesting--the strap that came on my '48 engine is way to large for the generator. It fit well with a chrome cover on the generator, but not at all w/o it.
