kick start

Post by StueyC »

I rmoved my kick start cover today and found a cone shaped part postioned in front of the kick start ratchet gear. It looks likea small cone type clutch but doesn't appear in any of the books I've looked at.

Any ideas what it is and its purpose?

Thanks Bosheff, I happened to find a small drawing of it in a manual.

There are some tricks in helping hold the throwout bearing in place when you reassemble. It can be pretty frustrating. One trick is to put the kicker cover flat on a table, open side up, and position the throwout bearing. Then remove the clutch pushrod from the transmission, use it as a 'holder' on the throwout bearing while you then re-attach the kicker cover, sliding the pushrod back in as you go.
The other trick I have only heard someone tell me, and have not used myself, so I'll save it for an ace-in-the-hole.
