Hello.
I intend to make 52 generators 12V with a conversion kit,
but is the exchange such as brush holders necessary?
The wiring how?
How about the durability?
Please teach knowing one.
Thanks
Ron

Re: Converting the Panhead Model52 Generator
Ron-san since no one else has answered let me try. The shape of the pole shoes used on model 52 generators is basically the same as used on the later two brush generators. To convert to 12 volt you can use field coils from a model 65A generator. I get the armature rewound to 12 volts. You'll want to wire the generator like a two brush 65A generator and go to http://www.45partdepot.com/ and get one of their 12 volt regulators that looks like an original cut out relay. Wire up the relay according to their instructions.ronsworker wrote:Hello.

This knowledge base article on converting the 32E is basically what you also need to do with the model 52. Good luck ... Perry

Re: Converting the Panhead Model52 Generator
Sorry I missed this one till now. All the info posted has been correct on doing the convert. However, it is not necessary to use the 12 volt armature. The 6 volt armature will do the job just fine, and nothing is damaged by doing so. The only difference will be that it takes slightly more revs to put out 12 volts. Under any normal operating speed, it works fine. I've been doing this for Many many years, running 100/60W halogen headlights with no problems. I do have to use low beams in town driving because the generator won't quite put out enough power idling around town to keep up with the 100W hi beam.
