I'm thinking of installing a five speed. I want to leave my options open for a starter, but would like the kick start also. I see people selling plates to adapt five speeds in a four speed frame. Is there certain year transmissions to look for that adapt pretty easily?

That's one option as well as a 6 in a 4. Seems I can get a whole used 5 speed for less with starter mounts and have my four speed in one piece as a spare.

why waste your money on a five speed

Don't Do It

1st and top gears are the same ration and you waste time changing thru the extra gear

somebody wedged a 5 speed into my bike and i'd gladdly swap it for a 4 speed

5 speeds also tend to whine a bit after 4 speed box's

5th gear is 1:1

Swap 5th gear out for an Over-Drive gear of say: (.86:1) or even (.893:1) OD & you got the Best of it all !!!
Any 'close ratio' gear boxes are just too much shifting for a street beast!
