transmission top removal

Post by 1950EL »

Has anybody pulled the lid off a tranny (1950 tank-shift pan) while it's still in the frame? I need to replace the oil seal on the shift cam shaft. I'm not in front of it now to determine for myself and I'm guessing that at least the two center/rear screws might make it impossible.

Easier to pull the trans out of the frame. The oil tank makes it pretty impossible and the oil tank doesn't come out while the rear fender is on, etc, etc. The entire tranny assembly will come out the left side intact with the clutch and inner primary still on it. Takes about 45 minutes if you've never done it.
