Post by Hog54 »

How come I see 2 different sizes for panhead tranny drain plugs? The one I always see for sale isnt the same size thats in my tranny.Mine is 3/8 X 24 and the one I always see for sale is 1/2 X 13.And why would they put 2 different sizes in the same trannys?

37 to 54 use 3/8-24, they changed later but I don't know what year.

I've just been thru this too.The drain plug you want (3/8 x 24) is harley part # 700, v-twin and Old Dude have 'em

That oddball one with the 1/2 x 13 thread is part# 707, I don't know what bike that is for either, but the older trans like yours and mine take the #700 part number. One thing, however, is I am having difficulty finding the correct crush washer for this plug.
