panhead gears

#1

Post by Beck »

bought a box of rusty panhead gears. One of them has an "R" stamped in it. Reverse? If these are from a 3 speed w/ reverse transmission, does anyone know how many are common to a 4 speed?

Beck,
The only common gear to a 3&R and a 4Speed is the main drive gear, high shifter clutch, high gear shift fork, and the main and counter shafts. All other gears are unique to a 3&R. Any pictures?

Beck ,
Pretty much all I see there are 4 speed gears. Too hard to see in your pic what the tooth counts are. In three speed and 3&R boxes the low gear is a sliding gear. There is not one in that pile. Also the low and second mainshaft cluster would have a beveled tooth profile to engage the sliding gear. It does not look like you have that. How many teeth are on the larger cog of the CS cluster gear?

There are two "cluster" gears-both have 15 teeth on the small end and 20 teeth on the big end, (with 6 internal male splines).
The other cluster gear (with the spiral, speedo drive? gear) has 15 teeth on the small end and 19 teeth on the big end.
