This place is taken care of
A very nice move by the allied authorities is that almost every lamp pole, power pylon is used for a ~ 3 sqft photograph to show men who took part in this operation. Photographs of the average Joe.
At the entrance to the city of Bayeux , is a big roundabout. There they put up a bronce statue of Eisenhower.
In every village, town or city in the Normady they are places, streets, houses named after an allied unit and even after individual men
After a couple of days I rode towards the Brittany and of course Mont Saint Michel.
Perfect weather in the early morning.
Finally returning to Germany via Le Mans, Orleans, Troyes.
Troubles?
None.
Hard to believe ay ? Maybe I`m an ignorant.
On day one I noticed that the tail light doesn`t work anymore. No minus. Huh ??? = rust.
On the 2nd day I felt and saw the adjustable triple tree moving when braking or hitting a pothole.
This is the 1949/1950 adjustable triple tree with 2 bolts and funnily shaped "spacers".
So I kept on checking the 2 bolts of the triple tree every day.
The handle bar once was fairly loose
I lost one bolt of the front fender
The generator sweating oil at the engine mounting.
Oil pump is sweating too much for my liking
Crank seal is dripping (that pisses me off)
Trans is leaking at the kicker bushing
Bushing for the seat post is completly shot.
Bushing in the seat bar 51900 seems to be gone south.
The clevis pin 51918 in the seat post to secure the seat is wallowed out (the pin is good but the bore in the seatpost is wallowed)
Springs for the seat post need to be replaced now.
Some funny sound from the front end is audible
The 10W oil in the front end is too thick or it is just not the right brand of oil
The rear chain is gone.
The am brake switch fell apart (fixed with a zip tie)
The am ignition lock I need to look after
I needed 1 quart of oil
I was never stranded
This bike loves me.
FYI: While I was mending the bike at the roadside occasionally ... quite a lot of french biker stopped or slowed down AND returned and asked me whether I needed help.
How about that ?!
The bike arose interest everywhere with people pointing at this or that while me sipping a coffee "Grand Creme" a "Pastis" in a bar or having a "plat de jour" (lunch)
Oldtimers with walking sticks spending minutes looking at it. On camping grounds I was impressed how many people were capable of speaking English suddenly LOL
Numerous people asked me if they could take pics of the bike. French people are very polite.
No rain except upon reentering Germany when I basically drowned for that 5 hours ride accompanied by very, very low temps grrrr
So it was: Fantastic scenery, great people I met, no breakdowns, easy riding.
Nothing but fun on almost exactly 4000Km

Re: 2500mls shakedown ride Part Deux
Just received 2 speeding tickets from France with the help of the german DMV
51.6mph instead of 50mph = $53
52.2mph instead of 50mph = $53
BTW: Outside city limits in the middle of nowhere

Wow. That's harsh! 53 bucks for 1.6 mph and 2.2 mph over the limit. Now I know that my speedometer isn't nearly accurate enough to keep me out of trouble over there. Anyway, thanks for the great pictures and updates. Glad you and the bike did well.Raytag wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 5:18 pm
