Can someone please explain (or better yet post a pic or two) of how the checkstrap is utilized and where the ends go.

Apologies...and thanks for the reminder!
Never thought would attach to the bottom of the tub in that manner. Seems like a whole lot of stress on the mounting point because the sidecar metal isn't real heavy duty material.

One more question please. What is the cloth material used for making the checkstrap. It reminds me somewhat of something like that is used for making fire hoses.

It is woven cotton webbing. And oiled like old cotton canvas tents. Here are a couple NOS, a single for a sidecar and a double for a package truck.
