Re: Oh dear, 36E1426 flies to pieces
I have been watching these guys, machivmotors , on eBay dismantling and selling off parts of classic bikes for several years. They have blocked me because I have asked questions they did not want to answer. Their sales staff is not as knowledgeable as they should be, many of us here on this site know better than those machivmotors' hacks.
Best wishes to all, and sorry for the sacrilege of that seller.....

In 2013 I bought a 46 Indian that sat outside in a Texas backyard for 30 years.
I drove to Texas to pick it up.
I needed many parts, the day I arrived home they listed all the parts for a 46 Indian.
I bid and won 15 auctions.
The shipping was quite a bit so I drove to Appleton to pick up the parts.
The guy who owns the place is knowledgeable, there were two other guys helping him that day.
They currently have 31 thousand parts listed.
I don't know how he does it, he must work 20 hours every day.
They are so busy they have no time to answer questions.

Lo siento. I suppose it is a good thing that he is offering the hard to find parts for sale to those who are in need....

Re: Oh dear, 36E1426 flies to pieces
I wonder if their parts, all split up, puts more antique bikes on the road by finishing them with that rare part?
Or if the bike was nearly complete and only needed some bits and bobs to make a nice original bike?
At today’s prices for half correct piles, it must be a gamble to make money doing this.

I noticed the same trick is now being used to create profit on used guitars. Buy them up, sell the partshttps://www.ebay.com/sch/gibsondependable/m.htm ... 7675.l2562

The parts are worth more then the bike.
The practice is controversial, a bike is lost, other bikes are completed.

Re: Oh dear, 36E1426 flies to pieces
Well the parts brought 79,300.00 which is probably less than the bike would have brought before it was butchered. He may get a better deal from eBay but they take 10 percent and PayPal takes 2.9 percent. The bike had to be purchased ,transported, and taken completely apart. Now all the parts have to be packaged and shipped. I think money was lost on this. Also he probably never got to ride the bike and experience it’s true value that no amount of money buys. I hope that this is the start of the end of this practice. I don’t blame anybody who is in it just for the money from doing this as it has been smart business but shameful to the motorcycle which to me is much more than just the sum of its parts.

Wow, I didn’t realize that much “Gross” revenue could come from one bike! Did you by chance count how many listings he posted? And if, by the time all is packed and shipped, and the time spent writing listings, paying commissions and so forth, little money is made, despite being a ‘36 Knuckle which has a large percentage of one-year rare parts. Makes you wonder where and how cheap the original bike was purchased or how legally it was obtained?bobphd wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 5:36 pm Well the parts brought 79,300.00 which is probably less than the bike would have brought before it was butchered. I think money was lost on this.
He made about $31k from this bike.little money is made
This guy is very sharp, he can look at a bike, 30 seconds later he knows profit.
